Buhari, Gbajabiamila Felicitate Sanwo-Olu at 55


The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari( retd. ), and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, have congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo -Olu on his 55th birthday.

According to a statement on Wednesday, the Lagos governor, who will clock 55 on Thursday, will continue his tradition of reaching out and sharing love with the needy in the society.

The statement was signed by his Chief Press Secretary , Gboyega Akosile.

“Mr Governor believes that an occasion of one birthday, especially a milestone such as the age of 55, should be a day to reflect on one’s purpose of existence in life and this, according to him, is to serve humanity, ” the CPS added.

Akosile stressed that aside from the outreach to the needy, Sanwo -Olu had been scheduled to spend the better part of the day attending to “ many important state matters.”

Gbajabiamila, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, said Sanwo- Olu’s journey on the earth had been worthwhile and that the people of Lagos were lucky to have him as governor at this time.

He eulogised the governor ’s leadership qualities, describing him as one of the new breed of leaders.

“Incidentally, Governor Sanwo- Olu and I share the same birthday.

This is designed by the Almighty Himself and I must say that we also share a lot in common as Lagosians that have our fellow citizens at heart, ” he added.

In a related development, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, also congratulated Gbajabiamila on the occasion of his birthday.

Lawan, according to his media office , congratulated the Speaker on his exemplary representation of his constituency and service to Nigeria as a whole at the National Assembly over the years.

The statement read, “ In the 9th Assembly, he has been a dependable partner in the efforts to focus the legislature on entrenching democratic practices and patriotically helping the government to continually improve service delivery to the Nigerian people. ”

Governor Sanwo – Olu, however, asked his friends, family members, professional colleagues and political associates not to place any congratulatory advert for him in any mass media.

He noted that such resources should rather be diverted to touching the lives of vulnerable members of society.

“The best birthday gift anyone would give me at this period is to identify those at the bottom of the pyramid wherever they reside, lift them up by putting smiles on their faces that way, you would have lifted my heart too, ” the governor said in the statement.

He insisted that there would be no form of ceremony to mark the occasion aside from the programme he had listed for the day.

Femi Adesina, saluted “ the courage and boundless energy” the governor brought into leadership.

“The President affirms that the governor ’ s consistency in diligently serving the state and loyalty to the governing party, APC, deserve commendation, urging him to keep sharing the wealth of experience gained from the private sector to bring more competency and effectiveness into the public sector, which provides the engine for driving policies, and actualising development plans.

PUNCH confirmed this to CMM “As the Lagos State governor turns 55, President Buhari notes, with appreciation , the strong leadership he has brought to bear with his management team to contain and reverse the spread of novel coronavirus , ” the statement added .
