On the 31st December 2019, former senateor representing kaduna, senator shehu sanni was arrested on the grounds of extortion and bribery as he was said to have received money from the chief executive officer of ASD motors, Alhaji Dani Dauda.
Following his arrest, there has been court appearances as regards the case. However, on Thursday, 9th of July 2020, the presiding lawyer of the case, Abba Mohammed, stated that all materials, especially cash that would be used as evidence to prosecute the senator was not ready as it was in the protection of the central bank of Nigeria.
He further stated that the anti graft agency was no longer in charge of keeping the evidences safe.
Due to the lack of ready evidence, the presiding judge; Justice Ekwo Iyang adjourned the matter to 19, 20, 21 and 22 October 2020, on the ground that the prosecuting party as enough time to retrieve and gather their evidences from the bank.
One defense lawyer; Pelumi Olajemigbesi, while speaking to some journalists stated that the inability of the commission to provide evidence for the case was sign that the efcc was not was not serious and he further stated that the efcc was a “political arm of few people who believe that they can control things from the corridor of power”.
Furthermore, Olajemigbesi stated his disapproval of the commission as he noted that they were posting reports aimed at defaming the defendant as most of the reports were not true.
